Medium Rig in Essex

Snifters in Chelmsford, Essex was the name of a subterranean nightclub with a difference. It was a true melting pot of society. It was also the place Essex first discovered Grolsch bottled lager (remember?)

But most of all it was the venue of choice for music lovers, drawing in the crows from miles and miles.

Why?

Simple.

The music we played. And the gear we played it on.

Although the place was rammed with people soaking up the sound, the horns would more than cope. Ensuring that dancers even at the back of the room could enjoy every note at the top end.

And sing along if they wanted to. Which they did, because they could hear every line in every song the DJ played.

And the base wasn't just heard, it was felt, it was experienced.

We'll be forever grateful to our JBLs which pumped and thumped it out. These were basebins par excellence, unlike the ‘carboard boxes’ which pass for subwoofers all too often these days.

Is it any wonder the place is known today as the Bassment Nightclub. Reinvented by its current owners for today’s music lovers.

But it will always be Snifters to us.

Unforgettable.

As our music experiences always are.

Big Rig in Essex

When a milestone birthday comes around for one of the family, or for a celebrity singer songwriter who likes perfection, only a big rig will do.

Just need to make sure the venue is built strong enough to take it. After all, it's meant to be a celebration not a demolition.

For occasions like this, our concert stack is just the job. When the venue is just wide enough to fit everything in, no customer ever regrets the choice of the big rig.

These loudspeakers are the de facto system for professionals who like to play loud and clear.

Which is the way it should be, isn’t it?

Whatever the genre of music you’re into, the big rig is the one you’ll want.

Take our word for it.

ASS Concert System

Did you know our ASS Concert System loudspeakers were used by leading DJs and by bands such as Swedish blockbuster group ABBA and by Europe on their "Final Countdown World Tour 1986-88".

It's also identical to the rig that Steve Howlett aka DJ Froggy used at the famous Caister Soul Weekenders, as well as in clubs throughout the UK during the 1980s.

Froggy worked extensively with names such as Dave Lee Travis and Emperor Rosko (BBC Radio 1 DJs) and Froggy was the one who introduced dual deck mixing to the UK back in the late 1970s.

Froggy visited Paradise Garage, New York City where he saw DJ Larry Levan synchronising the beats of records on two turntables.

He also visited Studio 54 to watch the DJs beat matching records there.

Both venues were equipped with "cost no object" sound systems designed by Richard Long.

On his return to the UK, Froggy approached Tony Rossell at Acoustic Sound Systems to build something bigger than his existing Matamp/Orange system that would perform just like the huge systems he heard playing in New York.

And that's when the ASS Concert System started to become famous, being squeezed into Southgate's Royalty Nightclub every weekend and used to incredible effect at all the Caister Soul Weekenders.

We didn't want our ASS Concert System to sound like one from thirty years ago, as speaker drivers today are so much more advanced than they were then. So we asked Tony Rossell himself as the original designer, to specify, select and supply the highest quality 21st century drivers for use in our system.

Every cabinet has been returned to ASS for complete refurbishment and now looks as good as it sounds.
